Life Coach, Kary Shafer

I have been on many journeys in my life trying to find peace, joy, and freedom – both external journeys and inner, more spiritual journeys. I have had the opportunity to become familiar with, and in some cases live with, many different types of people and cultures and have gained additional awareness with each experience. I really enjoy studying and observing all the different kinds of relationships we have in our lives: relationships with others, ourselves and with money.

The many different careers I have had in my life that have all contributed to who I am today. I have been a Petroleum Engineer, Travel Agent, Fishing Guide, an Advertising Sales Rep for Newspaper and then TV, Beverage Sales, and now I am running my own business for the second time in my life. I have been broke twice and rebuilt. I know what it is like to have money and to not have money. I know what it is like to believe that I will be happy when I just have enough money! I now realize that it is the other way around – when I am happy I will have all the money I need.

I have sought therapy through counselors, Psychiatrists, 12 step programs, alternative therapies, energy work, and holistic healing in an effort to be a better person. Each of these has had their place and has contributed toward the essence of the person I am. The most rewarding experiences I have had have been the journeys within myself the find out how to be at peace with the world around me and know true contentment.

I am honored to have wonderful friendships with people that remind me of my journey when I stray, don’t cosign my unhealthy behaviors, and share in the fun of this thing called life. I also have a mentor and a coach myself so I know the importance of this relationship to my success.

My wonderful family has supported me through whatever, whenever, and wherever.

Without all these people I would never have the guts be on this journey I am on now.

Through Money Awareness I hope to share some of what I have learned and continue to learn about the relationship we have with money in our lives. Money is an important part of our lives, we need it for the most basic of needs; food, shelter, and clothing. All too often we spend money to temporarily fill emotional needs which in the long run can create more emotional problems when we then don’t have the money to spend on the things that truly fulfill us. The other side of this coin is hoarding money to fill emotional needs and as a result not enjoying life. Money might be a temporary fix but it can never fill emotional needs or be used take away uncomfortable feelings. The only true way we can become more at peace with money (and ourselves) is to understand why we do what we do with our money and change our money habits to start getting the results we want. We will then move toward more personal fulfillment not only in finances but in our relationships with others and ourselves as well. Personal fulfillment is what it says, personal; it is different for everyone. I don’t feel that people should be put in a ‘box’ based on demographics. It’s up to us to figure out what we want, what is important in our lives and take the action to make it happen. Every time you use money make sure it is going toward your personal fulfillment.

I can help you change your money habits so you can lead a more satisfying, productive life. Join me on this journey!
